About this converter
HEIC is Apple's default camera format since iOS 11, roughly half the size of JPG but poorly supported outside Apple devices. WebP is Google's format offering roughly 25-35% smaller files than JPG at comparable quality, with transparency and animation support.
Almost everyone converting HEIC to WebP is holding an iPhone photo that Windows, an Android app or an upload form has refused. iOS switched to HEIC to save space and the rest of the world never followed, so the file is fine and nothing will open it.

Will converting to WebP reduce the image quality?
A little, in exchange for a much smaller file. The conversion runs at a high setting where most people cannot tell it apart from the original. If it is the file size you care about, Compress Images lets you name the size you want.
Why will nothing open my HEIC files?
iPhones have saved photos as HEIC by default for years, but most things outside Apple still cannot open them — Windows, plenty of Android apps, and a lot of websites you try to upload to.
Is WebP supported everywhere?
Every current web browser reads WebP, as do Windows, macOS and recent Android. Older software and some phone photo apps still refuse it.
