HEIC is Apple's default camera format since iOS 11, roughly half the size of JPG but poorly supported outside Apple devices. AVIF is a modern AV1-based format with the best compression of the mainstream options.

Will converting to AVIF reduce the image quality?

Why will nothing open my HEIC files?
