Flattening turns those answers into ordinary page content. What you filled in becomes part of the document, looks identical, and can no longer be edited or lost.
This is the right thing to do before emailing a completed application, a signed form or a submitted return.

Does this make my document secure?
No. It makes the filled fields permanent, which prevents accidental edits and stops readers dropping your answers. It is not encryption and not a lock — someone determined could still alter the page.
What if my PDF has no form fields?
There is nothing to do, so you get your original file back untouched rather than a needlessly rewritten copy.
Do my PDFs get sent anywhere?
No. Everything happens on your own device, so your documents never leave it. That matters more than usual for PDFs, which tend to be contracts, statements and scans.
Does it work with password-protected files?
Not yet. A protected PDF has to be unlocked with its password first.
